* Crude oil prices edged down after U.S. government data showed a surprise build in crude inventories

* U.S. crude stocks rose unexpectedly last week as imports climbed, while gasoline stocks decreased and distillate inventories fell.

* A survey found earlier this week that OPEC's oil production in March 2019 fell to its lowest level since February 2015.
